I thought I would start off the blog with an easy post, as mentioned in the ‘about me’ section, I used to live in Malta for almost 14 years. I’ve since left the beautiful little chaotic island, but it always feels like home. I visit often to see friends, so my next trip from the island is never usually too far away. Malta was also my last trip so it makes sense to start there as my first post.
So there are a few options about getting a cab in Malta:
– White Taxi
– Bolt
– Uber
There are other companies around, but I’m not here to review every one.
Ever since I had multiple bad experiences in white taxi’s with being overcharged, and the driver’s doing stupid things like trying to take more than 1 hire at the same time. I’ve avoided them. Bolt was the first main ride-sharing company on the island, and I’ve been a loyal customer since.
Not only does Bolt work without any hassle, with everything being automatically charged to your card etc, it also works in loads of other countries around the world. While Uber is around, and I also use that, for me – Bolt in Malta is the easiest and quickest way to get around.
If you’re arriving at the airport for the first time, just download the app and set your payment details up before you arrive. When you arrive order a cab, you’ll have to walk outside to meet them. For all the times I’ve arrived at the airport, I’ve never waiting more than a few minutes to get a Bolt cab. There is always loads waiting around.
A ride to Sliema/St.Julians will set you back round 15-20 Euros and will take around 15-25 minutes depending on traffic (but Malta traffic is a story for another post!).
